Commercial Helicopter Pilot Course or CPL(H) course Scholarship

In the meantime please feel free to review our frequently asked questions below. This particular scholarship includes the 30 hour commercial flying course, all landing fees and test fees.

How do I apply, if I have no flying experience?

You will need to register your interest on the Heli Air website and one of our Scholarship Co-ordinator’s will contact you via phone or email to discuss your options and run through the application criteria and answer any other questions you may have. You can of course also visit us at our Head Office in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire and speak to one of our instructors directly. From here you can enrol on the PPL(H) course should you wish the pursue your career as a professional helicopter pilot. Once enrolled in the Heli Air Academy as a PPL (H) student you will receive expert guidance to lead you on to your hours building and ATPL (H) ground school examinations all to be found in your welcome pack.

What pre-entry requirements are there for the application?

For the CPL(H) course scholarship you will need to have completed your PPL(H), hours building and ATPL (H) Theoretical Examinations with Heli Air prior to the deadline date of 31st August 2018, and since 1st October 2017. Please give us a call to arrange a time to speak to one of our course instructors for the timescales on completing the aforementioned.

How much is the CPL(H) scholarship worth?

We are proud to offer the successful candidate the unique opportunity to receive a full CPL(H) course worth an approximate value of £14000 invested in them .

If I am successful in being awarded the Scholarship, which aircraft will I be flying?

The Scholarship winner will be awarded a CPL(H) flying course in the world class Robinson R22 helicopter.

Will I be required to pay anything back?

The applicant awarded one of our Pilot Scholarships will not be required to pay back any of the Scholarship awarded to them.

Where is the CPL(H) training taking place?

At Heli Air, the Scholarship winner will have the fantastic opportunity to complete their CPL(H) training at any of our nine bases throughout the UK. We would ask you to look here to find out which base you would be interested in and to discuss it at your application stage.

Which type ratings do I need to hold for this scholarship?

The CPL(H) course will be conducted in a Robinson R22, and as such the only type rating required would be this machine. However the candidate can opt to upgrade the Scholarship if they so wish for the Robinson R44 and therefore must hold a valid & current type rating in this machine. Should you not have a type rating necessary for the CPL(H) course; this is something we can arrange prior to your training commencing.

Is the CPL(H) scholarship open to international students?

Absolutely. We welcome any and all international students who are permitted to study and work in the European Union onto the CPL (H) course and with a chance to be awarded the Scholarship. We must remind any international student at this point that Heli Air cannot assist you with living arrangements and visas. You must also have achieved a level 6 in English Language which will be assessed during the Radio Telephony exam and PPL(H) skills test.

What is the application deadline?

31st August 2018.

Will I need to arrange my own Class I medical?

Heli Air can advise you and guide you through the Class I medical requirements and processes, however it will ultimately lie with the individual to arrange their medical examination. The initial class 1 medical is undertaken at the CAA Medical House at the CAA HQ at Gatwick Airport. You can find more info from the CAA Website here.

If I fail my CPL(H) Skills Test, will the Scholarship cover additional costs for me to re sit the examination?

The Scholarship will cover the individual to sit their CPL(H) Skills Test and all CAA fees in the first instance. Any further examinations required will be at the cost of the individual. That being said, the high standards of training employed by Heli Air, it will be our duty of care to ensure that the Scholarship winner will be 100% prepared for the CPL(H) Skills Test.

What does the scholarship provide me with?

The Scholarship will provide the individual with the unique opportunity to complete their CPL(H) course and Skills Test without any cost to them, leaving them to be fully engaged and committed to their training.

What is involved in the selection process after my application has been received?

  • Your application will be reviewed by our Scholarship Selection Team
  • The shortlisted applications will be invited to attend an informal interview with the team, to get to know the candidates and discuss their applications
  • A member of the team will contact you to let you know if you have been successful and have been awarded the Scholarship

How many scholarships will you be awarding out?

Heli Air will be offering one scholarship per category.
