Advanced Training Turbine Helicopter Type Rating Scholarship

How do I apply, if I have no flying experience?
You will need to register your interest on the Heli Air website and one of our Scholarship Co-ordinator’s will contact you via phone or email to discuss your options and run through the application criteria and answer any other questions you may have. You can of course also visit us at our Head Office in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire and speak to one of our instructors directly. From here you can enrol on the PPL(H) course should you wish the pursue your career as a professional helicopter pilot. Once enrolled in the Heli Air Academy as a PPL (H) student you will receive a copy of the relevant scholarship application forms, along with your welcome pack
How do I apply if I currently hold my PPL (H)?
Providing you completed your PPL (H) with Heli Air since October 1st 2017, you are eligible to apply. Call our scholarship team on 01789 470476 to discuss the application process, or click on the ‘enquire’ button to get in touch.
What pre-entry requirements are there for the application?
For the scholarship you will need to have completed your PPL(H) with Heli Air prior to the deadline date of 31st August 2018. Please give us a call to arrange a time to speak to one of our course instructors for the timescales on completing your PPL(H).
How much is the Turbine Scholarship worth?
The Type rating for the R66 or Bell 206 Type rating is worth approximately £7500. For this it includes up to 5 days of intensive training, both in the air and in the classroom along with 10 hours flying. We are at present the only UK based Helicopter Company to offer a turbine Scholarship including all CAA charges and fee.
How long will the Turbine Scholarship last?
The minimum time will be 5 days of training including a skills test with a Heli Air examiner; however the training must be completed within 3 months.
Will I be required to pay anything back?
The successful candidate will not be required to pay any of the training back as we are investing into our loyal and greatly appreciated customer base.
Are there any age restrictions with applying for the scholarship?
No however to hold a PPL (H) you must be at least 17 years of age.
Is the Type rating scholarship open to international students?
Absolutely. We welcome any and all international students who are permitted to study and work in the European Union onto the PPL(H) course and with a chance to be awarded the Scholarship. We must remind any international student at this point that Heli Air cannot assist you with living arrangements and visas. You must also have achieved a level 6 in English Language which will be assessed during the Radio Telephony exam and PPL(H) skills test.

What is involved in the selection process after my application has been received?
- Your application will be reviewed by our Scholarship Selection Team
- The shortlisted applications will be invited to attend an informal interview with the team, to get to know the candidates and discuss their applications
- A member of the team will contact you to let you know if you have been successful and have been awarded the Scholarship
If I am successful in being awarded the scholarship, will I be expected to pay for anything myself?
Not a penny. We are currently the only Scholarship supplier to include all course and CAA fees. However you will have to fund any additional training if the test is not passed or additional training is required over and above the 10 hours.
What does the scholarship provide me with?
The scholarship will provide you with a full Robinson R66 turbine Type rating. Depending on your level of skill and aptitude the minimum training will be 5 hours on aircraft type with additional training provided totalling 10 hours flight time.
Are there any timescales involved?
Your PPL (H) and skills test must be completed with Heli Air, and you need to have provided us with your application form prior to the deadline date of 31st August 2017. The successful candidate with then have 3 months to complete the type rating and licence skills test.

How many scholarships will you be awarding out?
Heli Air will be offering one scholarship per category.
