ATPL(H) Full Time Ground School Scholarship Programme

How do I apply, if I have no flying experience?
You will need to register your interest on the Heli Air website and one of our Scholarship Co-ordinator’s will contact you via phone or email to discuss your options and run through the application criteria and answer any other questions you may have. You can of course also visit us at our Head Office in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire and speak to one of our instructors directly. From here you can enrol on the PPL (H) course should you wish to pursue your career as a professional helicopter pilot. Once enrolled in the Heli Air Academy as a PPL (H) student you will receive a copy of the relevant scholarship application forms, along with your welcome pack.
How do I apply if I currently hold my PPL (H)?
Providing you completed your PPL (H) with Heli Air since 1st October 2017, you are eligible to apply. You can register your interest by calling 01789 470476.
What pre-entry requirements are there for the application?
For the scholarship you will need to have completed your PPL(H) with Heli Air prior to the deadline date of 31st August 2018, and since 1st October 2017. Please call us on 01789 470476 to arrange a time to speak to one of our course instructors for the timescales on completing your PPL(H).
How much is the ATPL Theoretical training worth?
The course itself is worth an approximate value of £7200. This provides the student with the full 6 months full time study of the ATPL (H) Theoretical Knowledge course. It is for the individual however to source and finance their own accommodation.
Will I be required to pay anything back?
No. Please note however that the candidate must pass their exams in the first instance as any re-sits of failed exams will be at the cost of the individual.
Are there any age restrictions with applying for the scholarship?
No, however to hold a PPL (H) you must be at least 17 years of age.
Where is the Theoretical training taking place?
Our ATPL(H) theoretical training will take place at Heli Air’s Wycombe base, where you will be at the heart of Heli Air’s thriving helicopter business. You will be immersed in a commercial aviation environment where the day to day running of a highly busy airpark and helicopter base will help and motivate you through the course, providing you with many extra dimensions to your training.
Is the ATPL scholarship open to international students?
Absolutely. We welcome any and all international students who are permitted to study and work in the European Union onto the PPL(H) course and with a chance to be awarded the Scholarship. We must remind any international student at this point that Heli Air cannot assist you with living arrangements and visas. You must also have achieved a level 6 in English Language which will be assessed during the Radio Telephony exam and PPL(H) skills test.

What is involved in the selection process after my application has been received?
(1) Your application will be reviewed by our Scholarship Selection Team
(2) The shortlisted applications will be invited to attend an informal interview with the team, to get to know the candidates and discuss their applications
(3) A member of the team will contact you to let you know if you have been successful and have been awarded the Scholarship
If I fail any of my exams, will the scholarship cover additional costs for me to re sit the exams?
Whist the Scholarship is a fantastic opportunity for the successful candidate, with the estimated value of the Scholarship at over £7200; we unfortunately cannot support the individual with exam re-sit costs.
How long is the ATPL(H) ground school theoretical training?
The Theoretical training is a fully endorsed intensive course that can be completed in 6 months. The course runs Monday – Friday 0830 – 1730.
What does the scholarship provide me with?
The Scholarship provides the successful candidate with the exclusive opportunity to study all 14 ATPL (H) subjects and includes any and all CAA fees for their first sitting of examinations. Once these are passed, there are no more theoretical exams required, leaving you free and able to concentrate on purposeful flying and building your hours towards your CPL(H) course.
How many scholarships will you be awarding?
